Rowanhardt 3D practice by ChillySunDance Rowanhardt 3D practice by ChillySunDance
I'm learning 3D modelling! This was done in Blender and is a result of several tutorials worth of study. He's not quite finished yet, as I still need to add rigging to the tail and ears (I want to try to apply some physics to his tail) but it's very cool to know that I can get this kind of effect with relatively simple polygons and textures.

Still need to make his accessories too.

For anyone interested in learning blender, this is the tutorial that really got me started.…

I'll probably replace this screenshot with a better picture later when I can render a background to go with the character.

My god you've moved to 3D, nothing can stop you now!

On a related note, this is a pretty perfect translation of your style.

I hear that if you really want to get into 3D, Autodesk Maya is the best program to use, but I'm not sure, because I've never tested it; it's not exactly free...

Like the shadowing effects! did you have to put special settings to get it cell shaded?
ChillySunDance Featured By Owner Jul 4, 2014  Hobbyist Digital Artist
yep. It's got a very slight cel shading effect on it and two light sources. It took a bit of fiddling to get it looking the way I wanted but overall it's pretty basic.

Heh, he looks quite devious.  I've been catching up with all his past adventures, and I've become really enamored with his character.  ^_^

Ah my goodness, it must be an amazing feeling to see one of your own characters pop out and move around like that! You should try seeing if there is a 3d printer service that could use that and give you a little Ro action figure. Heh wouldn't that be something! :D (Big Grin)
